anna mitchell | bay area family photographer
Hey there! My name is Anna. I’m a Georgia peach living in Sunnyvale, California. I’ve been passionate about photography for more than two decades. My first love was nature photography as a young teenager – I’d sit on my parents’ front porch and snap photos of the birds flitting to and fro around the feeders, bird bath and tree branches. As soon as my friends found out I had a “nice” camera, it was game over, and portrait photography took center stage.
I studied Journalism at Georgia State University and, after a digital marketing internship at the Georgia Aquarium, landed a job at an environmental journalism website (MNN.com, now absorbed by TreeHugger.com). I used my photography skills to create photo-driven articles about plants, animals, conservation and…cookies? Check them out here!
I spent a few years at Weather.com writing articles and running social media for The Weather Channel’s Facebook and Instagram. As a part of the digital video team, I covered everything from breaking news hurricane updates to cute animals. It was a whirlwind!
These days, I’m exploring the Bay Area with my two kids, Amelia (6) and Julian (2). We love hiking, visiting museums, and scouting out kid-friendly restaurants. I’ve had the pleasure of working in the classroom at my kids’ parent participation preschool, Cupertino Co-Op Nursery School. Though I had experience as a babysitter back in Atlanta, it’s been a whole different ballgame diving into the important, messy work of a preschool. It’s been such a pleasure to get to know all the children and their families – and that’s how I knew that my path forward would be in family photography.
It would be my pleasure to spend some time with your family and capture the love and happiness that comes with picking flowers, running through the grass, playing peek-a-boo behind a tree, throwing rocks in a creek… because those little moments are what childhood is all about. Those little moments are what we want to remember forever.
If you’d like to book a session, shoot me an email!
Hope to hear from you soon :)
